The End of Wars

Like a rusk in hot tea -
is hate in compassion.
Like sunshine through soft clouds -
is peace amidst violence.

An old man's hands are warmed in a boys palms,
As he teaches him the winters of his wars
With sickness, wrinkling and other men.
He fed the boy a rusk without hot tea
Under the clouds with weeping sunshine.
And cried: "our land is our land and not the other man's"

But what the man said, the boy forgot,
And the man and the other man
Were buried in same sand.
As the boy and the other man's boys,
Drank hot tea without their rusks,
Under the sun. Under a clear sky.

thanks guys.....basically boils down to fight hate with love and compassion and only when the new generations stop copying their elders' mistakes and instead correct them rationally can conflicts end.

GOOD.OPTIMISTIC.OR OVERCOME EVIL WITH GOOD.REALLY GOOD.HOWEVER WHY RUSK IS SYNOYMUS TO HATRED AND RIVLARY?IS OLD MAN ANNIHILATED BY THE YOUNG WITH HARMONY AND LOVE....GETTING OUT MY NERVES........ STILL GOOD ..NEEDS MORE TIME....

Thank You! The rusk imagery has to do with how when someone practices compassion, any hatred he has melts and softens away like the way a rusk melts and softens in hot tea(compassion).
Also a rusk is hard and dry also adding to the imagery of hatred and rivalry.

the poem isn't about annihillation of the old man by youth's harmony, but annihilation of previous generations' hatred and rivalry by youth not conforming to hate but instead forgetting it and instead realize relationships are more important than a piece of land.

the old man and his rival were both "buried in same sand"

btw..i wrote this poem while eating rusks with tea...lol...explains the imagery.
